Career Tips for 2020

Posted 7/2/2020 by Claire Bayman

If one of your goals for 2020 is taking the next step in your career, then it’s time to start prepping to make sure you’re ready for when you find that perfect opportunity.

We’ve written a quick round up of our top 5 tips to help you prepare.

  1. Ask for feedback.

Us Brits aren’t always the best at singing our own praises, so ask other people what they think your strengths are? They might tell you something you’ve never considered yourself – giving you more to talk about during your next interview.

  1. Think beyond your CV

It’s not just your CV that needs to be in ship shape, think about how you present yourself online also. Is your LinkedIn profile up to date? Is there anyone you can ask to endorse you or write a recommendation? It’s also important to review your personal social channels, employers often check these to get a sense of your personality and your fit for the business – do a clean-up and make sure there’s no access to anything you wouldn’t be willing to talk about if asked during an interview.

  1. Think about the story you want to tell

You’ll have a limited amount of time during your interview and you want to make the best impression possible, so plan ahead. How can you talk about your career history and skill sets in a way that highlights the relevancy to the role and the company – show them you’re the perfect fit.

  1. Do your research

Before your interview take some time to research the company, the culture, any changes that impacts the sector that the company operates in, news stories, even the interviewer themselves. Be prepared to talk about why you would want to work for that particular company – employers want people who buy into the company, so make it more than just about the role.

  1. Trust your recruiter

We can only speak for ourselves here, but we really do have your best interests at heart so trust us. Be honest with what you do and don’t want, ask us questions, ask our advice – we’re here to help get the best for you, a happy candidate means a happy recruiter!
