Ashton Pioneer Homes (APH) is a charitable Community Benefit Society (CBS) and a Registered Provider of Social Housing regulated by the Regulator for Social Housing and manages almost 1000 homes mainly in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Much has been achieved already, from starting with a third of their homes being empty in 1999 with the remaining residents wanting to leave. Today APH finds itself with almost 100% occupancy and excellent Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs). It is with the support of local residents that their communities are now a place where people aspire to live, and there is a very healthy demand for their homes.

The mission is to ensure that every resident feels at the HEART of their community.

Social housing has never been so important, and with the ever-changing landscape for registered providers it is vital that APH have the right mix of talent on their Board of Management. Following the recent appointment of a new Chair they are seeking to appoint two new members to join their existing committed and talented Board.

As a Board Member you will :

  • Ensure the Association complies with the nine principles of good governance, set out in the Excellence in Governance, produced by the National Housing Federation ; Ethics, Accountability, Customer First, Openness, Diversity and Inclusion, Review and Renewal, Clarity, Control and Structures.
  • Share accountability for the direction and control of APH within the agreed strategy, policy and planning framework.
  • Establish a strong and positive working relationship between the Board, the CEO and the Senior Management Team.
  • Support the Chair in their role of providing strategic leadership and creating a positive Board climate.
  • Set objectives for APH in the context of the corporate aims, strategy and policy.
  • Review and evaluate current and future external opportunities, threats and risks.
  • Be accountable for the quality and effectiveness of the Business Plan in contributing to delivering long term sustainability for APH.
  • Review and monitor the performance of the Association against the business plan.
  • Ensure there are systems in place to identify, manage and report risk to safeguard the Association’s assets.
  • Ensure APH complies with all legal and statutory obligations.
  • Keep well informed and keep up to date with sector knowledge.

As a Board Member we are seeking individuals who can work with others to solve problems and spot opportunities and risks, and we are particularly interested in individuals from either a finance, asset or housing management, health and safety or HR background. Whilst experience of housing would be desirable, we are more interested in individuals who have a demonstrable interest in improving the lives of others, and have the drive to make a positive impact.
