The Community Forest Trust (CFT) plays a vital role in one of the most important causes of our generation – the climate emergency - and we are now seeking an influential and impactful CEO to deliver the current business plan and to create a new and ambitious business plan for post 2025.

As a registered charity CFT supports, enables and champions England’s 13 Community Forests (ECFs). The EFCs deliver social, economic and environmental impact through woodland creation and in 2022/2023 they will plant over 1.5 million trees. With a small core team, and Board of 9 Trustees, CFT is responsible for supporting the Forests with recruitment, fundraising, programme delivery, land holding and acquisition, supporting subsidiaries, strategy and onboarding new Community Forests.

As the CFT CEO you will have the drive and rigour to deliver the business plan and be responsible for:

  • Taking ownership of delivering the future direction and shape of CFT
  • Providing organisational leadership, establishing and implementing business objectives through a business plan
  • Working closely with the Chair of the Board, Trustees and staff
  • Promoting and responding to the opportunities presented by the Government programmes for delivery
  • Managing the agreements with the EFC’s with who CFT have specific and formal arrangements
  • Managing the relationships with partners/funding bodies
  • Delivering services and outcomes, overseeing the development, management and promotion of projects and services
  • Developing and leading funding strategies, including writing or assisting with writing funding bids
  • Supporting governance work and identifying any risks and opportunities to deliver the business plan
  • Managing the core staff and employees of CFT, and be involved in recruitment activity as and when required

As our next CEO we require someone with the genuine passion and desire to help deliver an ambitious business plan, whilst embracing the core values of the organisation. It is essential you can build, maintain and nurture relationships with stakeholders, and have the ability to influence and network, whilst being able to challenge others, and drive through change.
