Group VAT Manager – Liverpool or London – Remote with occasional visits to the office £64,000 to £71,000 + a vast range of benefits including flexible / agile working

The Client:

Our client is a large not for profit organisation with offices in Liverpool and London. Still going through a period of transformation they are looking to recruit a Group VAT Manager to be responsible for the tax affairs of the organisation ;PAYE, CIS, Corporate Tax and SDLT but there will be a real focus on VAT.

The role will play a pivotal role in new developments and supporting a very talented Director you will be responsible for delivering the tax strategy, looking at making continuous improvements to tax reporting processes and ensuring compliance with all the relevant taxes.

The Role will :

The role will represent an exciting opportunity for someone to be able to assist and help shape how the Group delivers it’s tax reporting. Interacting with a number of key stakeholders it will be a high profile role within the organisation.

  • Ensure the Group companies remain compliant with all relevant taxes and all returns are filed and payments are made on time. This includes reviewing the returns, especially VAT and CIS and correcting any errors.
  • Manage the delivery of the Group’s tax strategy along with constant monitoring and updating as and when is required.
  • Designing and implementing stronger tax controls where required.
  • Liaise with the wider business to ensure the tax consequences of transactions are understood and correctly recorded for ensuring accurate and timely reporting to HMRC
  • Lead the implementation of ‘Making Tax Digital’; suggest and deliver improvements
  • Lead and manage the process for any HMRC enquiries
  • Hep the Group achieve an agreed Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM) with HMRC
  • Evaluate the impact of changes in tax legislation on the business and suggest changes to processes, reporting and compliance as required.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for tax matters along with sharing tax knowledge with the wider Group Finance team
  • Liaise with external tax providers as and when is required

The Candidate:

  • It is desirable that you be fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIOT although we are very happy to accept applications from individuals with the relevant proven VAT / tax experience
  • Ideally you will have trained in a large accountancy firm or have proven experience of working in an in-house role (preferably within indirect taxes)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to be able to influence and negotiate with various stakeholders
