Interim Financial Controller | Very Hybrid/Quasi Remote | North Manchester Offices | 6 month FTC

An SME charity is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to support the organisation during a key period of financial oversight, reporting and planning.

This is a hands-on senior finance role, ideal for an interim who can quickly take ownership of financial control, statutory reporting and team leadership within a charity environment.

The Role

Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will have full responsibility for the finance function across both the charity and its trading subsidiary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Production of monthly management accounts and Statutory Annual Accounts in line with Charity SORP (FRS102) and trading entity requirements
  • Leading the year-end process and liaising with external auditors
  • Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including scenario planning around membership levels and staffing
  • Working closely with budget holders to support forecasting and budget setting
  • Full responsibility for cashflow management across charity and trading bank accounts
  • Management of service level agreements relating to debt management and accounts payable
  • Submission of HMRC VAT returns and related sector-specific returns
  • Leadership, development and motivation of a finance team of three, including appraisals and personal development plans
  • Ensuring accurate and timely processing of creditor and debtor invoices
  • Maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register

About You

You will be a confident interim who is comfortable operating in a small-to-medium charity environment.

You will bring:

  • Full accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent)
  • Strong experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector
  • In-depth knowledge of Charity SORP (FRS102)
  • Proven experience producing statutory accounts and managing audits
  • Solid VAT experience
  • Strong people management and team leadership skills
  • A hands-on, pragmatic approach with the ability to deliver to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-finance stakeholders
