We are working with a small but growing facilities management company seeking an experienced Financial Controller for an initial six-month period. The role will provide cover while a permanent member of the finance team is seconded to a business-critical project.
Reporting to the Finance Director and collaborating closely with both the FD and Managing Director, you will provide strong commercial and financial support across the business. Alongside maintaining effective financial control, you will take a lead role in management accounting, cash-flow forecasting and developing the finance team.
This is a broad, hands-on opportunity for someone who can quickly understand the key commercial drivers of the business, translate financial information into meaningful insight and help senior management make well-informed decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts, ensuring results are supported by clear commentary and meaningful commercial analysis.
- Work closely with the Finance Director and Managing Director to provide insight into business performance, emerging risks and opportunities.
- Take ownership of short- and medium-term cash-flow forecasting, providing senior management with clear visibility over the company’s liquidity requirements.
- Proactively manage cash, working capital and financial commitments, identifying potential pressures and recommending appropriate action.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting cycle, helping budget holders understand performance and maintain control over expenditure.
- Analyse repair, maintenance and contract costs to identify trends, assess profitability and highlight opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
- Develop reporting that enables the business to better understand its key performance drivers and supports more effective commercial decision-making.
- Lead the finance team, ensuring responsibilities and expectations are clearly communicated and effectively managed.
- Coach and develop team members, improving capability, confidence and accountability across the finance function.
- Support the Finance Manager in streamlining month-end processes and producing faster, more commercially relevant management information.
- Maintain balance-sheet integrity through robust reconciliations, reviews and financial controls.
- Support the Finance Director with subsidiary and group reporting requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of annual statutory accounts and manage the external audit process.
- Ensure compliance with VAT, CIS, PAYE, corporation tax and wider HMRC requirements.
- Provide technical accounting, tax and VAT guidance to the finance team.
- Strengthen financial processes, policies, systems and internal controls as the business continues to grow.
About you
You will be a qualified accountant—ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent—with experience operating at Financial Controller or senior Finance Manager level. You will bring:
- Strong financial reporting, audit and tax-compliance experience.
- Proven experience of leading and developing a finance team.
- Excellent cash-flow, working-capital and balance-sheet management skills.
- The ability to combine technical financial control with commercially focused analysis.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to work closely with senior leaders.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience within facilities management, property services, repairs and maintenance, construction or another contract-led environment would be particularly valuable.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Financial Controller who enjoys working alongside senior decision-makers and making an immediate impact. You will provide valuable continuity during the secondment while helping the business strengthen its forecasting, management information and finance-team capability.
