Great new financial controller opportunity with a social housing provider in Manchester where you will play a pivotal role in the organisation and a member of the senior management team, bringing technical accounting knowledge and expertise to support all functions. Building effective relationships across the business will be pivotal to success in the role, providing comprehensive financial information and advice, encouraging innovation to deliver better ways of working and proactively driving for efficiencies across the wider organisation. 

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the Management Accounts process. Prepare monthly management information including year-end forecasts, variance analysis, and commentary for presentation to the Board.
  • Ensure the integrity of the financial accounting records is maintained throughout the year through regular reviews of balance sheet accounts, minimizing year-end audit adjustments and ensuring the smooth running of the finance function.
  • Manage the finance transactional teams, purchase ledger, bank processes, payroll etc. ensuring control activities are carried out efficiently, effectively and in line with best practice.
  • Manage the daily cashflow balance and forecast reporting, highlighting any issues promptly to minimise financial risk to the company.
  • Manage effective communication with external partners and stakeholders regarding financial transactions.
  • Be the main point of contact for the auditors, ensuring the auditors’ requirements are managed and audit timescales and deliverables are met. 
  • Prepare the draft statutory accounts and supporting schedules, adhering to current regulatory requirements, to enable the audit to progress efficiently, minimising audit time and ensuring prompt sign off.
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Income responsible for rent setting and compliance, sales ledger and credit control.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Accountant responsible for all regulatory returns, ad hoc projects and the annual 30-year business planning process
  • Manage the annual budget and forecasting processes in conjunction with the Project Accountants and departmental stakeholders.
  • Manage the setting of, adherence to and revision of policies and guidance for finance ensuring that the highest standards of accuracy and compliance are achieved.
  • Management of access levels for the Organisation bank accounts.
  • Responsible for improvement within finance systems and processes driving automation in reporting and driving efficiency within the department.
  • Leading, inspiring, and developing colleagues providing direction and coaching to support their personal development.
  • To work in collaboration with the Finance Director and the Executive Team to ensure the company’s objectives are met, deputising for the Finance Director when requested to.
  • Act as a point of contact, representing finance with other heads of Department. Work collaboratively to improve processes and financial integrity across the company.
  • Support the Commercial Director and provide finance support to the Asset Management Team, with financial analysis of costs incurred and support on planned maintenance works. 
  • Any other ad hoc activities as directed by the Finance Director

In return, the successful applicant will receive a salary of £60,000 - £65,000 + benefits, a hybrid working model - 3 days in the office 2 days working from home and the opportunity to work closely with an experienced finance director.
